  We are using Plant 3D 2013. We are having a problems with the generation of production Isometrics. The quick Iso plots fine and give no errors. But when we plot the production Isometrics they are split badly. We have tried all the solutions on the forums with the line numbering,Isoconfig script edits etc and results are still not improving. Perhaps if you have some tips on what to look out for i will be a great help. Even Simple pipe runs are split badly accross sheets.

  Are you using the same Iso style for both the quick Iso's and the production Iso's?

  Have you created your own Iso style for the Productions Iso's?

  Based on the change between Quick Iso's and Productions Iso's, I would suggest try using the same Iso style used for the quick Iso's and see if the problem persists.

  Hi There

  Do you have an AutoCAD Plant 3D object enabler installed on the computer you are trying to open an AutoCAD Plant 3D model in Navisworks?

  If not, I would suggest installing the object enabler. This will allow Navisworks to view the components and their relative information.

  Hi Peter,

  If you would like to re-join the pipes after you have created your gap using the Pipe gap tool, erase the symbols that are created when adding in your pipe gap (using your standard AutoCAD Erase command) after doing this you need to select the "Update View" option. Your pipe will then automatically be re-joined. See attached image for the steps.

  HI Tarryn,

  I am trying to develop a line number scheme which will show up on the Isometric drawings using the following format, Size-Spec-Service-Number-Dash Number, Example -6"-121X1-MPS-12345-1. With the primary pipe following the format of Size-Spec-Service-Number (without a dash number) and the vents and drains using the dash number. We have managed to create an iso with the primary line and one vent line which follow this convention, but the remainder vent lines will not show a line number. Any help would be appreciated.

  When you create an Iso, in the create Iso dialogue box there is a field for Revision Number. This field will appear on your Iso. Please see attached pic.   Hi Jonnathan.

  All Vault versions are compatable with AutoCAD Plant 3D 2014 except for Vault Basic.

  You do not need to add an extension onto the AutoCAD Plant 3D 2014 software like you did in the 2013. It is part of the solution.

  Hello Tarryn,

  I saw on a previous question to you (pasted below) about lined pipe that one way to accomplish this is to modle the flanges and then use that PLANTCONVERT command. This would need to be done for all flanged components? Wouldn't the model be slowed down quit a bit by using this process. Our models are already large and I'm afraid this method would slow it down further....

  Does Plant 3D 2013 have support for PTFE-Lined piping?  I remember seeing that 2010/11 had a Resistoflex Content Pack available but I am currently having problems modeling those components.  Can you point me in the right direction?

    AutoCAD Plant 3D does support lined piping. You can use the end type LFL for your flanges. You can model your flanges to include the lining and then use the PLANTPARTCONVERT command to add in your ports. A flange for each size will need to be modelled. Unfortunately there is no content pack to download.

  Yes, this would need to be done for all sizes of a specific flange type. It shouldn’t make too much of a difference on the size as if you weren’t using your own model you would instead be using one of the default models provided with the software. This would need to be tested however in order to give an accurate result.

  What I would suggest is build a custom component in your catalog, then add this to your spec and place the component into your model. Monitor the size difference and see if this is an appropriate solution for you.

  As a reseller of AutoCAD Plant 3D and an expert user, the Autodesk plant design product obviously has the best potential of all the plant design products.  But there again, I am biased!

  I would suggest having this conversation with your local Autodesk Reseller for more information.

  Is there a way to get an overview of all the images with dimensions that are visisble when entering dimensions in the Catalog Editor ? It would make it easier to check what forms are available in stead of creating 'dummy' parts to access the image.

  Accessing the image with dimensions from the 'graphics' part in the 'Create New Component' dialog would also help.

  This is an annotation that would need to be edited in the Isoconfig.xml file. I am currently working through what fields can and cannot be added.

  I have attached an image of the area of the Isoconfig.xml file that will need to be edited. I have also attached labels as to what the current fields are. 

  I will look into it more and add my findings to the blog you have referenced.

  I do apologise, AutoCAD Plant 3D 2014 is not compatible with Vault Basic because this is a single-user vault which uses SQLite

  Hey there Tarryn,

  Right now, I am working my way through ISO creation in Plant 3D 2013. I am finding a lot of little glitches here and there, but I found my way around most of them as they are more user error than anything. I found one that is particularly obnoxious though.

  I make sure a line is completely connected and realize that I need to change the Line Tag to match the whole line, so I just: right click>add to slelection>all connected parts, and then I change the properties of the Line Tag. The lines are still shown as connected in the 3D model, but when I generate an ISO the pipes become broken into multiple sheets and says that every pipe run has an open end. It can be fixed by physically deleting the connectors, but I do not want to have to do that every time I have to make a property change. I tried AuditProject and PlantAudit, but they did not do the trick either.

  Again, the 3D model is connected, the Line Tag is the same and they have been edited via the property pallete. Essentially, I am doing a lot of Check-Work for my crew and this is a real problem, potentially. Is there something I can do, globally, to make sure that this oddity does not happen?

  Hi David

  Have you ensured that the connectors Line tag has also been updated?

  To select a connector hold down the Ctrl key and use a selection window over the area where the connection is, otherwise change the View to wireframe and select the connector holding the Ctrl key. When a connector is selected you will see yellow grips.

  Hi There

  Have you setup the layers you would like in your Ortho Graphic drawing inside the template used to generate the Ortho drawings? Or have you created your own template to use for the Ortho drawings to be generated on?

  The default template used is Ortho - A1 -Color Dependent Plot Styles.dwt In order to see your layers inside the Ortho Drawing you would need to add them to the template being used when generating these drawings.

  Glad you looking at AutoCAD Plant 3D. With regards to the object enabler you need to install the object enabler relative to the version of AutoCAD you have. Therefore if you using AutoCAD 2012 you would need to enstall the AutoCAD Plant 3D 2012 object enabler in order for it to work.

  I am new to Plant 3D 2013, when i launch the product I get a dialog box that says "Content cannot be used becasue the shared content folder is not available. C:\AutoCDAD Plant 3D 2013 Content"  How do i point autocad to the correct folder and where would this folder be.  I am not sure if is related or not, but the the tool palettes do not work either.  Any help would be appreciated.

  Hi Dennis

  To point AutoCAD Plant 3D to the correct folder location, open up the spec and catalog editor as the administrator. Once opened select the "Modify Shared Content Folder..." option under tools. In the dialogue box that opens up select the correct location for the shared content. You are also able to copy over the current content from the default location (this is recommended). For additional assistance on this please see attached image.

  The default content folder is C:\AutoCDAD Plant 3D 2013 Content

  Based on the issues you are having I assume there is a problem with your path setups. Were there any issues upon installation? Is your local disk called "C"? The way your paths are setup would affect the tool palettes as well.

  Hi There

  The reason for this is in the
  Project setup, the "automatically assign an auto generated tag"
  option has been selected for the symbol for the reducer (see attached image1),
  but in the Project setup for the reducers no tag format has been setup.

  In order for an automatically
  generated tag to work a tag format needs to be assigned. Create a new tag format
  for the error to no longer occur. Or you can change the setting for the symbol
  settings to "Not a tagged component", this way no tag will be
  assigned to a reducer and no error will occur.

  I am working on a project and ready to produce the isometrics. All the piping lines have a unique number which is assigned to the pipe line number tag. Now, when I change some line number tags, they still stay visible in the 'Create Production Iso' window. My question: how can I see which line number tags are no longer in use and how can I delete them ? Question 2: is there a way to visualise what line belongs to which line number tag. Can I isolate these elements in order to assign them to another line number tag ?

  I have tried to regenerate your problem on my side. When I
  change the Line number tag, the previous line number disappears from my
  "Create Production Iso" dialogue box. Ensure that you have selected
  all components that use this line number when changing. Otherwise please upload
  an example project to the Autodesk Discussion group and I will take a look and

  When you select a component, in the properties palette it will tell you what line number is assigned to said components.

  In the above code, set the field MaxDirectionChanges to 0.

  I am working on a project with multiple disciplens.  I am currently using Plant 3D for all of my piping and process design.  However, when Plant 3D model is linked into Revit, which is what the other disciplens all use, I am losing components and some graphic visibility from Plant 3D components in the Revit model.  Is there is way to correct this or should I handle things a little differently with the other disciplens?

  If this does not work I would suggest using the EXPORTTOAUTOCAD command in AutoCAD Plant 3D.

  This is a matter of my clients.

  He tries to select a plot style table "PID.ctb". in AutoCAD and AutoCAD P&ID Plot menu
  So He run the command "CONVERTPSTYLES".
  And it worked well.

  But when you exit the program and run it again, it again came back to "stb" file.

  He just want to use the file "ctb".
  But the setting is not fixed.

  Why this happens?
  Also Wondering how to solve.

  Hi There,

  Before converting a drawing from CTB to STB, use CONVERTCTB to convert your CTB file to a "mapping" STB file, which you then use when running CONVERTPSTYLES on a CTB drawing file

  For a more permenent solution I would suggest using a CTB template to start off with.

  AutoCAD PID 2014 has new icons on the off page connectors to show if they have been connected to another off page connector. These icons appear on my prints when I batch plot my PID drawings. They do not appear when I plot the drawings individually. Any idea why? Is there any way to switch the icons off?

  Autodesk is aware of this bug and it is with the developement team. If you untick the "publish in backround" option the status symbols should not be printed.
