  Hi Jarrod,

  I updated the catalog with the BoltCompatibleStd, etc, as per your reply to question #55. Bolt length is still the same as before any changes were made. Are there any other suggestions that I might try to remedy this occurrence?

  i have created a spec in plant3d spec editor  2012.Now i have migrated the spec from 2012 to 2013 and now when generate the isometric drawing of pipe with 90 and 45 degree elbow using this spec file, the pipes and fittings are getting clubbed.i have attached the spec file for your refference.   Im replying back to question 59, where does it tell you to delete those area instead of re sizing them? that would be very helpful information to include in the help file. I did manage to get the drawing area to save and hold but I receive a fatal error when placing the BOM area. I plan on deletint the existing areas and re inserting them and then placing the BOM to see if that works. however do you have any other suggestions?

  Hi Bill,

  It doesn't tell you anywhere. It is just something I have picked up during my experience of setting up ISO Templates.
  I had a similar issue on 2012 version of Plant3D with the Table Area's. I just re installed the application and it resolved the issue. I haven't had it happen on the 2013 version.

  Hello,

  I am having difficulty creating a valve that is socket weld x threaded. How do I create this using the Spec Editor. We have drain and vent lines throughout our plant that require a ball valve that is socket weld on one end and threaded female at the other for a male threaded plug.

  Hi Dave,

  When you create a new Valve component in the Catalog editor, on the General Tab, the Connection Port Properties table will allow you to select a different end type at each port. Set Port 1 to SW and Port 2 to THDF.

  We have received our Plant Design Suite Ultimate 2013.
  After having installed it on Tuesday (alongside Plant Design Suite Ultimate 2012). When I tried using the Data Manager to display all information so that I could export it to excel, I noticed that it was blank.

  I then tried the Report function and again it remained blank.

  When I tried editing th eproject I receive a Just In Time (JIT) Error
  
  Could you advise urgently as I need to get this sorted out.

  Hi Imraan,

  There is no known issues with running 2013 along side 2012. I am currently running that configuration. Firstly I would check that your project successfully migrated to 2013. Is it happeing on one project only? Does it happen on any other PC?

  Hi Jarrod, thanks for your answer to question #60, but this is not the right way to handle the weld lenght because this extra lenght can have different values in the same project because of spec (kind of material) and pipe diameter. Further, when using this flag you get the real distance in the 3d model and afterwords even in ortho dwg. This flag should be available for user configuration inside each iso style.what do you think?

  Hi Mauro,

  Totally agree. I have mentioned this on numerous occasions to Autodesk, but still there is only one setting for weld gap. We can only hope that future releases have the functionality to use Weld Gaps in the correct manner.

  HI Jarrod, I've to get isometric drawings with pipe lenght for each piece that has to take account of the weld lenght , typically 2mm. That is, the real pipe lenght between 2 welds has to be reduced of 4 mm. How can i get this issue?

  Hi Mauro,

  If you enter into the Project Setup, navigate to Plant 3D DWG Settings, and then Piping Connection Settings, you will see at the bottom the settings for Weld Gaps, you can specify the size and also switch on and off.

  my companies uses an A1 border template and products half scale A3 drawings. im attempting to create a new titleblock for iso's using our border. how ever the drawing area doesnt seem to be displaying correctly after I set it. is this am issue with the A1 border and coping the final A3 style to modify?

  What would cause a pipe and/or pipes that i'm trying to place from the p&id line list not to retain the information from the p&id like line number & service? It places the pipe as unassigned, or will retain a previous service type. The P&ID line list will see this the corrected way but not will reproduce it in the model, it is not limited to any one pipe specific.

  Hi Randall,

  Most likely, this is a problem caused from the incorrect P&ID Object Mapping in the Project Setup. Go to the Project Setup and under the Plant 3D DWG Settings, select P&ID Object Mapping. In here, for each P&ID Class Definition, you can select which PID Property will copy over to Plant3D Property. Particularly focus on Line Group for your issue.

  I have a Plant 3D Drawings model file that has lost all it's piping data.  The pipe and equipment nozzels have no prompt to route pipe and do not accecpt connections from new pipe in the file. An error message tells me the file is not in the piping part of the project. can you tell how this could happed and how to restore this file?

  Hi Russell,

  This generally happens if there is a system crash. To fix this issue, right mouse click on the drawing in the Project Manager, and select Remove Drawing.
  Then right mouse click on Plant 3D Drawings, or folder, in the Project Manager, and select the drawing you just removed. This should reset all the properties etc of your items.

  Jarrod,

  I have used AutoPlany for many years starting with AutoPlant 97. In AutoPlant when you add Control Valves and Relief Valves you can set them up so that it ask you for the face to face dimensions. Is this possible with the AutoDesk Plant 3D? There are many different vendors for the control valves and relief valves and the dimensions change from vendor to vendor. It would be nice to use this option vs revising the spec for every project. Please tell me this works and how to make it happen.

  On the Part Insertion panel, there is a tool for Custom Part. In the 2013 release, there is also the command from the top of the Dynamic Tool Palette. There you can define a new shape for use inline. Or you can select an AutoCAD model to use as an inline item.
  With this feature, you can specify these custom items without having to use Catalogs and Specs.

  Hi Jarrod,

  I am currently configuring AutoCAD Plant 3D 2013....

  Bolt Length Mapping with a different length in the “Add Bolt Length” dialog box, updated in catalogs and specs, everything seemed to work ok, however, when I modeled the bolt length remains the same as before everything was updated...advice will be very useful.

  Hi Manuel,

  When you add a compatible standard in Bolt Length Mapping box, you must put that same compatible standard into the bolt set in the catalog. On the General tab, there is a field for BoltCompatibleStd.

  "To install the autocad plant 3d Object enabler, you must have an Autocad based product installed on your system"

  thanks for the clarification ... but with the application "Object Enablers" I can see the project realized with autocad plant 3d in other versions of autocad. My requirement is to navigate through the model and to interrogate the model itself, for example if I click on the properties of a tube, the program tells me the features? As for "Object Enablers", the discharge depending on the version of autocad I right?

  The Object Enablers will also allow you to see properties of the Plant3D objects in Navisworks and Freedom also. Along with allowing the Plant3D model to be used in other verticals of AutoCAD.

  In regards to question #33.  That function you gave me was for the Bubble Tag, not the numerical ID number that appears in the bom list.  Do you happen to know where that switch is for instrumentation?  Something must tell the iso program to place those id's next to each part.

  I have been through the xml file a number of times, and have not seen where the ID number is controlled. I can see how it is labeled on the table, but not the call out from the instrument. I would suggest going through forums again.

  This is something that everyone is asking for. Currently there is no Autodesk solution for such process. Below is a link for a tool that can be used to do a such process. This tool hasn't been tested by myself, nor have I seen it operate. So I can't vouch for its value or efficiency. But may be worth a look.

  Jarrod,

  We just upgraded to P3D 2013 and have noticed some new changes to Pipe Supports (thank you Autodesk!) But we have noticed that Dummy Leg supports are not able to be placed anywhere but the centerline of the pipe that it is supporting. Is there a way around this? It is very common that the Dummy Leg is offset to match the side of the pipe it is supporting.

  Hi Ryan,

  No there is no way around this. The Pipe Supports connect to the centre of the pipe and have no option of an offset. Hopefully this becomes an option in future releases.

  Hi Gopikrishnan,

  When you have equipment in your model, whether it be created from Parametric Shapes or converted AutoCAD solid, then you can slelect Modify Equipment and using the Template button at the bottom left of the Modify Equipment dialog, you can save your Component as a *.peqs file. Then you can access your *.peqs file from the same button whenever you need.

  Hi Jarrod,

  I need to defined an UNION regarding the DIN11850 normatives. The complete union is made up of 4 pieces: MALE part, NUT , GASKET, FEMAL PART

  PLANT PARAMETRIC COMPONENT

  The MALE and FEMALE parts are like a
  coupling with different dimension

  The NUT is a cylinder

  Connection: The MALE part is always linked to the NUT, whilst the FEMALE is linked to gasket.

  The most usage is piping connected to equipment or to valve. For example a pump could bhave MALE + NUT connection (nozzle); when I start piping from the nozzle the system should insert a gasket and a FEMALE or if the pump is FEMALE the system should insert gasket+ NUT +MALE.

  A valve connection could be FEMALE;  this means that the system should insert gasket+NUT+MALE or viceversa.

  point:

  1) which is the best way to handle this component (END TYPE, CLASS for each part)

  2) Is it possibile to add a new nozzle (MALE+NUT or FEMALE)  in the nozzle catalog?

  Hi Mauro,

  Firstly, to make this work seamlessly as inline component and as a nozzle, you will need to always assume the Nut is common with the Male Part. The Long Description can be used to solve this. Something along the lines of "c/w Nut".
  Create a gasket, (Ring Seal), as a fastener. And then also create the Female Part.
  In Project Setup/Piping Connection Settings, create a simple joint to connect the Male Part and Female part using the Gasket as the fastener.
  To add a nozzle to the catalog, open up the Nozzle Catalog in the CPAK Common folder in your Plant Content location.

  Hello guys, we are evaluating the possibility of using the platform autocad plant 3d for the management of major projects related to industrial plants.
  Our goal is wat to provide the customer a package management del'impianto be divested.
  But I have some concerns about.
  By exploiting the Helps of softwere I noticed that you can convert
  3D models created with other models in 3d softwere "smart" autocad plant 3d.
  From what I understand this procedure does not apply to pipes right?
  O is possible to make intelligene a geometric primitive such as a pipe or a flange created with softwere modeling point clouds?
  I noticed that there are applications such as "Pointsense" Kubit of which allow you to model in 3d autocad plant.
  The procedure, however, provides a double passage because I have to find the axis of the tube and then the model with the softewere Autodesk.
  And 'possible to avoid this procedure, the solid insererndo created by other softwere Specific Characteristics and associate of geometric
  autcad plant without recreating it again in 3D?
  I'd like to give lapossibilità comittente to view the model with a display that also allows to view the features
  piece created with autocad plant 3d. I'm testing "nawisworks Freedom 2013" and "ObjectEnabler" but with poor results.
  Maybe there are some things I do not know for display The built objects so 'as I see them in autocad plant 3d.

  Hi Thomas,

  You are right, you can not create a "smart" pipe with conversion from other software models. Pipe can only be created through the Spec Driven system within AutoCAD Plant3D.
  The application that is provided by Kubit, works with AutoCAD Plant3D well.
  Navisworks is definitely the best option for you to display the model for non cad users. It is a great review tool. I would suggest getting in contact with your Autodesk Reseller and request a solution demonstration to satisfy your concerns.

  I had it already do 1 Flange ..... but it is allright to need put manually the second flange and continue from there. Ideally , I woul like to see the 6000 mm straight chunks ( máx workshop length ) automatically put in ( something like MEP does ) , because of the final material listing in the proyect.

  Another cuestion if you do not mind :

  How about teaking the "Plant 3D Parametric Parts" ? You can do almost anything with parametrics and Iventor , then ADSK and into Plant 3D. But I woul like to be able to edit/modify the build i n routines /create new ones ??

  The parametric parts in Plant3D can only be modified using Plant3D or the Catalog Editor. Hopefully in future releases there will be some more functions to edit the parts, but at the moment this is it.

  1. The Create Equiment dialog box should have a Nozzles tab to add all the Nozzles required. This way the user does not waste time inserting the nozzles after closing the dialog box.
  2. Data Manager does not import all changes made in Excel. Apparently there is a limit in the number of changes that can be imported. Not all changes can be accepted, so far I do not know which is the reason
  3. The Add Nozzle dialog box in metric units must include sizes up to 1828.8 mm (72”) for Man Ways  The maximum size in the dialog box is 500 mm 
  4. New Equipment (Fractionating Towers, Boilers, Cooling Towers, Fin Fan Coolers, etc.) should be added to the current Create Equipment list
  5. The Create Equipment à Fractionating Tower dialog box should include 12 Nozzles (3 Manways and 9 piping nozzles). This way the user does not waste time inserting 12 nozzles to the new Fractionating Tower
  6. The Create Equipment à Boiler dialog box should include the different types of Boilers used in Industrial Plants, with the typical components: drums, dearators, boiler feed water pumps, superheaters, waste heat exchangers, etc

  Hi Roldan.

  1. This is something that you can put into the wish list when it is opened up on the forums or AUGI.

  2. Have you hit the limit? Would be interested to know what the number is if you have taken it that far. I have also not come across this yet. A suggested work around if you are hitting the "limit", is to break down your exports to excel to different class definitions and run modifications in multiple spreadsheets.

  3. Open up the Nozzle catalog and add your own sizes in. You can find the Nozzle Catalog in CPak Common folder in your Plant 3D Content location.

  4. Again, add this to the wish list when it is opened on the forums.

  5. You can create equipment, and then save that particular item of equipment to the templates location. Use the Template button on the Create/Modify Equipment dialog box.

  6. Again, you can place this request into the wish list on the forums, also consider the use of the Templates as a work around for now.

  I am using P3D 2012 and through the discussion board, I was able to figure out how to add instrumentation to the bill of materials.  The only problem I am having is have the ID annotation called out next to the instrument.  would you happen to know what switch in the isoconfig allows instruments to be tagged not bubbled but I.D.'d?

  Hi Robert,

  In the IsoConfig.xml, search for the following text:

  "InstrumentTag" AnnotationStyle="WipeCircle"

  When found, change WipeCircle to Standard

  This should remove the bubble and just tag the item as normal text.

  That is, what a story Zoran Zeba - one piece of pipe with two flange ('shop' item).

  Created with 'Create new component' -> Pipe  -> Pipe with flange (FL) & Plant 3D parametric Graphics.

  We need a different length pipe, but when I create flanged pipe acc 1000 mm and then I create flanged pipe acc 300mm , I get one flanged pipe of 1300 mm, but I need two flanged pipes of 1000mm and 300mm with connection (bolt set and gasket) between flanges.Another problem is how flanged pipe show as' flanged pipe' (with flange symbol) on isometric's drawing.

  If you have flanged end pipe, and you want a connection between, you can use the PLANTWELDADD command to break the pipe. It will put in the standard fasteners that are used within your joint settings. IE, Gaskets and Bolts.

  HI,

  What ever your project has been defined as is what will show in the Part Insertion Panel. If you select a Metric project, but use a spec with items from an Imperial Catalog, then it will still show only the Metric Equivalent. However, the buttin beside the size drop down, (Toggle Size Display Mode), will show the Imperial equivalent in brackets. This works for Imperial to Metric too.
  With the nozzles, the same rule applies. You can change the unit of the nozzle designation, but the list will still remain the same as the Part Insertion Panel.

  are suggested by Autodesk. Can you check if there is an experience working with
  cloud files, & give us suggestion for a good hardware configuration that
  would give us sufficient performance for loading such files .

  Hi,

  This wuestion would be best in the forums or a group discussion on Linkedin to get many opinions on this. I have a small 9million point cloud that works absolutely fine on a 16gb Ram PC, but running the sizes you are might have some issues. This would be best answered by people that have many different experiences.
  The loading you talk about is when attaching the PCG or the initial creation of the file? You can clip the PCG in AutoCAD to make it easier to work with. Click here for the youtube link on how to do this.

  Dear Sir , I have been trying out the exiting features of Plant 3D Software.

  My ultimate interest is to be able to route " piping " for the design of Pneumatic Conveyor Layouts. ( It is a kind of piping utilizing pipes or cilindrical ducts )

  So far I have created the Custom Catalogs and Specs to do so. I have accomplished this using the Excellent Catalog Builder addition and have so far my mix off Straight Ducts and 15,30,45,60 and 90 degrees elbows.

  In reality , Ducts and fittings are connected using "slip on " custom Flanges on both sides wich are bolted together plus an gasket. Also for two straight pieces ( 2 flanges at each connection ) Flanches are ver similar to DIN 2641 ( LAP - FL )

  I have succesfully used my custom components with multiple combinations of elbows and straight pieces. It works works really good ( say in D = 750 mm , etc)

  It is breathtaking how I can complete an Layout in just minutes......

  I have tried out PL , BV end types for every component. Work ok.

  The problem i have is that I can not add the two Flanches I need on each connection...... at every fitting.... The connection would be , for example BV to BV ( Bv on end of duct and BV on end of Elbow ) but I need to add one flanch at each end to bolt both components together.

  In reading this column I have akready tried different combinations of connection properties in Project properties , with no succes....

  Woul you be so kind and help me in this matter ?

  Hi there,

  Setup your flanges in the catalog with FL at the Flange face and the other end SO. See the standard catalogs for how it is done.
  There is a standard connection in Plant3D for Slip on flanges. Connects the SO end to the PL or BV ends. This will suffice to connect your flanges to the Tube and Bends.
  The Compound Joint setting for Auto Flange will match up with the mating flange automatically when continuing with your route. But it won't place the 2 flanges you require.
  When routing, use the Fittings option to help in the placement of components such as Flanges and the Bends.

  Hi Richard,

  Make sure that your PC meets the minimum requirements for Plant3D. That error comes from Microsoft Windows and can be caused from the ram being to low for the application.

  I receved your answer on my question but you did not understand me completely. I need flanged pipe as one position when I creat isometric drawing, not separately pipe and two flanges . That means two flanged and pipe as one position. I made flanged pipe catalog with flanges but when I create one pipe it is good but when I continue with another flanged pipe the program again create one route without connection between that two routes of flanged pipes. I  expect your answer soon.

  I have to create flanged piping and when I create flanged pipe acc 1000mm and then I create flanged pipe acc 300mm , I get one flanged pipe of 1300mm, but I need two flanged pipes of 1000mm and 300mm with connection (bolt set and gasket) between flanges. Thank you for your time.

  Hi Zoran,

  When you are routing the pipe, place your first section then insert a flange. Use the "Ctrl" button to change the insertion port to make sure you insert the flange at the pipe end. Then when you start the next section and start from the flange, the mating flange, gasket and bolts will automatically place.

  Hi,
  Use Symbol Key IDPL and Symbol Type INSTRUMENT-DIAL.
  You will need to create a symbol for the Gauge to appear on the ISO, (add the block to IsoSymbolStyles), and also add IDPL to the "IsoSkeyAcadBlockMap.xml" in the Isometrics folder off your project. When you open the file, you'll see the format that is used. Just follow the format for a successful ISO of your Gauge.

  Why is that I am unable to enter fractional values like 3 1/16" as nominal bore? Even if enter it's decimal value on Nominal size, it's not showing the fractional value. it shows only the decimal value. Is there way to enter so?

  Hi Gopikrishnan,

  You can't enter fractional values into the Catalog Editor, you have to enter decimal values. But to get your size showing up as you want it, including the metric equivalent you need to modify you nominal diameter values for your system.
  The file you need to modify is "NominalDiameterMap.csv".
  This file can be found in the install location of your application. eg C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCad Plant3D 2013\nominaldiametermap.csv
  When you open the file, you'll see the format that has been used for the existing values. Just follow the same format at the second to last line on the list.
  This should fix your issue. Also you'll need to copy this file around to other PC's that Plant3D is installed.

  Hi Luis,

  What a brilliant idea!!!!
  Unfortunately this doesn't happen. However, the 2013 version of Spec Editor has a "Catalog Builder", which is ultimately excel based. You could export your parameters from the Inventor iParts and use the tables to your advantage.

  The Catalog Builder can be found under the Tools menu in the Spec Editor.

  Hi Randy,

  This question would probably be better asked in the forums to see what other users are using rather than just my opinion. There would be no correct answer here, it really comes down to preference and corporate standards within your Cad Division. I would personally go through each font and find the closest to the result I am looking for and try to manipulate it from there.

  There was a quite big problem with v2012, that the software broke the iso-s into a lot of sheets, even by a smaller pipe run, with the same line number tag, with quick or production iso, with bigger(A0) iso template, with "Force iso into one sheet" On, etc. It seems, that in the new version, it also not solved. Do you know a way, to force the iso-s into one sheet? This problem is really annoying, and makes the iso generation useless. :(

  Hi Laszlo,

  I assume that you are selecting the "Advanced" settings before the ISO creation and selecting "Force Iso onto one sheet". This is where you over-ride the splitting. However, the issue is more than likely the tables on your ISO. In the project set up, where you change the ISO settings, the option is probably set to split the iso into 2 smaller ISOs if the table hits the limit of space that is defined in the Title Block.
  If you take the tables off the ISO style, or change the setting to overflow the table to the following sheet, then your ISO will be created all in one sheet.

  I have a doubt. I routed a pipe with fittings and vavles in P3D. Later I found that, the dimension of vavles are mismatching with Vendor Catalogue. If I update the dimensions of valves in plant 3D Catalogue, Will the dimension get updated in spec as well as in the model?

  Hi Gopikrishnan,

  If you change any data in your Catalogs. Use the "Synchronise Specs with Catalog" feature under the "Catalog" menu item in the Spec Editor. This will update your spec with any changes from the catalog.

  Then once that has been done, in Plant3D, run the command PLANTSPECUPDATECHECK. This will check for any differences between your model and spec.

  Thanks for answering my question #14. This question is related to that issue of having my model rotated. When I create ortho views from the model, the plan comes out at the orientation of the model. When I try and create an elevation of the same model, I am left with a view that is skewed.

  How do I set the ortho views to look at a face ore rotate the view box to an angle I want to show my model at?

  Hi Christian,

  Create a master model that has all your models xref'd into it. And Rotate everything by the 10° required to get it back to straight. As long as you don't try to run any pipes in this master file, you will have no issues.
  With your situation of the Model being rotated by 10°, most projects have a Site North and Plant North. Design is usually done at Plant North and a symbol on the drawing showing the Site North, with the difference shown.
  May be something to consider.

  Do you know how you can get access to the symbol style that is currently used for an asset (e.g. a valve) in AutoCAD P&ID?

  When you create an asset type in the P&ID Class definitions interface (e.g. a Valve) you have to assign a 'symbol' to the item so that, when you select it from something like a palette, it is inserted.  However, you can have multiple symbols for each Class Definition.  This prevents having to have a different class definition (i.e. Valve) in your palette for every variation of that type of valve (e.g. Jacketed, Close Bored, Non-Return, etc.).  If you have 10 different types of valves, and you do, if you have a different class defintion for each variation, you'll wind up with 60 or more items in your tool palette for each variation. 

  While that is problem enough, because Autodesk, in all of their wisdom, doesn't have the substitution palette working on the interface, it is actually impractical to select one of 60 items on your tool palette, because on any monitor worth using, the symbols are so small, that you can't read them.  You have to wait for the tool-tips to work.  So... doesn't work.

  I want to solve this problem by querying the drawing through a .NET program that will determine the symbol that is currently being utilized by each asset.  But the actual symbol currently being used by an asset is not accessible from any interface that I can see.  It is not recorded in the database, and it is not recorded in the .NET interface of the asset.  You can see it on the properties palette.  It's shown under the 'Styles' heading with the property 'Graphical style', along with every other property that goes to describe the asset.  But it's the only property that isn't shown anywhere else.

  So where is it recorded?  Does anyone know of a way that you can determine what graphical symbol is being used by an asset without using the AutoCAD properties interface?  How do you access it from the .NET interface?

  I have had a look in the DCF databases and can't see anything obvious in there. There maybe something that can be done through SQL.

  My site model has been rotated by 10 degrees in plan so when I create my piping ISOs, it shows all my pipework as having a 10 degree deviation on all runs. Is there any way I can use a second UCS wihile maintaining my Easting and Northing and RL outputs in the ISOs.

  Hi Christian,

  When running the ISO's, select the Advanced options before creating the ISO. You will see the Angle adjustment here. Depending on the direction of your 10° rotation of your model, is going to be dependent on the entry. It may need to be negative to get it back to Plant north. See attachment.

  Hi Jarrod,

  i've to define a new spec with pipe and elbow connected with a MUFF. When  routing the pipe the system should insert the MUFF at the 2 elbow ends. Furthermore, even when starting from  a nozzle the system should insert the MUFF component before routing the pipe.

  1) which class is the MUSS?

  2) which end types shall pipe, elbow and muff have?

  3) If the equipment is coming from Inventor, which "Connection Type" has to be defined in the BIM function in order to have the nozzle properly working?

  Hi Mauro,

  Do accommodate this, you will need to complete a number of procedures.

  1. Catalog your pipes and bends. In the catalog you will need to create pipe and bends with end connections of MJP, (Mechanical Joint Plug), for the ports.

  2. In your catalog, also create the MUFF as a "coupling". The Ports for this component will need to be set to MJF, (Mechanical Joint Female). Also remember that there will have to be an engagement length associated with these ports.

  3. Add these items to your spec.

  4. In the project setup, the standard "Mechanical Joint without Gland" connection setting will suffice to make this connection. But you will need to create a new compound joint. Create a new compound joint and call it MUFF Auto Joint, for example. Make sure you select "Coupling" as the connection part. The Endcode in this selection should be MJP and MJP. The image attached shows MJP and MJF which is wrong. (I noticed that after I posted it).

  This should complete your connection automatically.
  Make sure that your spec has priorities set correctly. I can only assume that your spec only has this type of joint.
  Also, you can create your own End Codes for the MUFF coupling and use standard pipe. To create your own end codes, in Plant3D, use the command PLANTENDCODES

  I hope this helps you out with your connection issue.

  For Inventor, in BIM Exchange, There are different connection options. Choose the best one for your part. Select flange for a flange etc.

  I have some problems with pipe, i working on xrefs from microstation and when i route pipe Autocad Plant 3D route this pipe but i cant see this. Pipe is invisibility, than when i use keybords CTR+A for marking all point in drawing then i see but not pipes, i see only line simular like autocad. Can You help me with this problems.

  Hi Michal,

  Firstly, make sure your layers are turned on. You may have a layer for that particular pipe turned off. Does this happen on every model you work with, or just one? Also, what happens if the dgn file is removed from the file? If you place your query on Autodesk Forums, you can upload the dgn and dwg model and I can download to have a look myself.

  Installing the software with no changes in the settings, will be a stable installation. But make sure that your PC is within the minimum requirements. As for learning...the benefits of contacting your local Autodesk reseller for an official training course will be of great value. The courses for P&ID are around about 2 days. You have plenty of access to videos here on Plant Exchange which are also benficial.

  There is two ways to use this block you created. Firstly, you can use it as a custom part. Or you could add it to the catalog. In either option, I would class it as a "Union". Under the "Fittings" class.

  Hi,

  Sometimes when you think you are entering metric dimensions in catalog editor, you are infact entering imperial. The trick here is to set your catalog measurement settings to metric. To do this, from the Catalog Editor, select the "Cataogs" menu, and then select "Edit Catalog in Metric Units". This will ensure all fields are in mm.

  Hope you can help me on this one.

  In Spec editor I'm creating an adapter with SW in one end and THDM in the other end. To this i'm connecting valves made from custom geometry with THDF endings. Whenever i try to connect these two, they always flip and connect to the wrong end. No matter how i try i just can't get it right. I have to rotate them and they're not properly connected. Just visually. Same problem if i try to connect adapter to valve.

  Do you have an idea how to solve this? I'm using 2012.

  Hi Lars,

  Sounds like a connection setting issue. In the Project Setup make sure the connection setting for THDM and THDF. And that there is no connection created that allows the SW to connect to THDF.
  Also, just check that the end settings in Plant3D....plantendcodes....are all there.

  Unfortunately no. The BOM on the ISO will only show 1 line per item type/size etc. It is possible to set up reports using the Project Setup or Report Creator to produce a document with your requirements.

  Hi Pablo,

  I have not seen any official documentation about this. But there has been quite a few discussions been held about it. I would suggest putting your question up on the forums to see if you get some response from others that may have given it a go with some results. It is possible to export the data into xls or csv format if that helps in the mean time.
  As a normal project is run, i would run an export of data at each mile stone of the project as the latest and greatest data for your SAP system. If it is live and someone makes a serious mistake in the design, such as adding too many pumps etc, it will in turn meave a mistake in your SAP system.

  Hi Jim,

  Plant3D and P&ID runs on 2 types of databases. The default database system is SQ Lite. This is a stable database system for up to 2 users on a project. If you were running more than 2 users on a project then it would be beneficial to convert it over to Microsoft SQL Database.

  Hi Marten,

  In the Class Definitions in the project setup, you'll be able to either modify the block to a more reasonable scale. Or you can modify the symbol scale so it inserts at a scale that is what you want.
  These options can be found from the buttons at the top of the project setup when you have the particular valve selected in P&ID Class Definitions.
